How To Play Blackjack

Aim of the Game
In Blackjack, the aim is got get a total that is higher than the dealers without going over 21. You can play with other people as well but you are still only trying to beat the dealer.
The Cards
The number of decks used in Blackjack varies from 1 to around 8. The cards are worth their face value and Jacks, Kings and Queens are worth 10. Aces are worth either 1 or 11 depending on what fits in with your hand.
Getting Blackjack
Blackjack is when the first two cards you are dealt equal 21. This usually gives you a bigger win. With most software the dealer checks to see if they have blackjack when their face card is a 10 or an Ace (playtech software doesnt). If they do then they automatically win and the hand is over.
How to Start
To start you need to place your bet on the table by selecting the amount of chips you want to bet. Each table will usually have a minimum and maximum bet amount which will be displayed on the screen.
You then click deal. The player and the dealer are each dealt two cards each. You can see both of your cards and one of the dealers. You then decide what you want to do, you can either;
Hit - take another card, you can do this as many times as you like as long as you dont go over 21
Stand - you dont take any cards and your hand stays as it is
Double - this doubles the amount of your bet and gives you one more card, this completes your hand you cant get any more cards.
Split - this splits the two cards you have been dealt into two seperate hands. Your bet is doubled and split between the two hands
Surrender - You forefit the hand and get half the amount of your bet back
Insurance - if the dealer is showing an Ace you will be offered insurance, this is a seperate bet and equals half the amount of your bet on that hand. If the dealer has blackjack then you win your bet back, if the dealer doesn't have blackjack you loose the 50% insurance bet and carry on playing with your hand.
